According to my sources who work within the Leafs front office, JFJ has been actively talking with Brent Sutter about becoming the next head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs. If a deal is reach with Brent Sutter, the Leafs will fire Pat Quinn.

The Habs are trying to package both Kovalev and Theodore. The two most interested teams are the Oilers and the Panthers. Sources also say this could become a three-way deal where the Roberto Luongo could end up with the Leafs.
That would rock.
Why would anyone want two over paid and under achieving players (Theodore and Kovalev)? Montreal may want to package both those guys but I can't see anyone wanting them. I just can't see that kind of trade happening.

I don't think Theodore is washed up but what if he is? That is a pretty big money risk to take on if he doesn't return to form. How much is someone going to give up for him and that risk?
ReplyDeleteIt is possible that one or both of Theodore or Kovalev will be traded but the chances of them both getting traded in a package is almost non-existant. Why would some team want to spend almost 25% of their cap room on those two underachieving guys? You'd have to be stupid to take on that risk.
Kolzig is the best goalie that is potentially available (forget Luongo, I can't see him going anywhere). One has to wonder if some teams are going to wait to see whether he become available should the Capitals not be able to get him signed to a contract.
I don't know who Edmonton is going after but they need a goalie and need one bad. And not just for this year so a guy like Theodore makes sense, except for his contract. Roloson and Biron are the other obvious options as well as Belfour if the Leafs decided to trade him. Bringing CuJo back to Edmonton might be a possibility too. Of course Vancouver and Colorado are looking for a goalie too so it's anyones guess who ends up where.
But here is a goalie prediction for you which is based on absolutely nothing except that it makes some sense: Andrew Raycroft to St. Louis for Doug Weight (and maybe others). Boston needs a playmaking center to play with Glen Murray and St. Louis needs pretty much everything including goaltending.
That does make sense.
