Setting the blueline bar

This should provide some insight into the market value of Redden, Chara, Jovanovski, etc...
It appears Bryan McCabe won't be testing free agency and will re-sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

A source told The Canadian Press on Wednesday that the two sides were close to agreeing on a new contract that would keep the defenceman in Toronto.

Reports on ESPN's website and the Fan590, an all-sports Toronto radio station, said the a five-year deal was already done while Rogers Sportsnet reported the sides were closing in on a multiyear deal.
Or does it?
If he's not allowed to talk to other teams then should we look at it as his value to the Leafs only?

UPDATE: The Toronto Maple Leafs have agreed to a five-year deal with defenceman Bryan McCabe, a source told The Canadian Press. The deal is worth between $5.5 million US and $6 million per year, the source said Wednesday.
