Leafs 3 Penguins 2 (OT)

By The Meatriarchy

What a way to start the New Year!! The winnning streak now stands at six, another injury was absorbed and a new hero stepped forward.

By that I mean Chad Kilger a fourth line utility player stepped up when Darcy Tucker was felled and scored two goals on two beautiful setups by Alexander Steen who returned to the lineup from injury tonight and out did Sid the Kid on the scoresheet.

And as icing on the cake Leaf goaltender prospect Tukka Rask kicked out 53 shots in a shutout victory over the Swedes at the world junior tournament.

And the cherry on the icing was the 8-3 shellacking that the Sens suffered at the hands of the lowly Atlanta Thrashers - guess we should have known that Hossa would have been up for this one. The Sens on the other hand just plain didn't show up. And don't give me that "we didn't have Hasek or Alfredsson BS. The Leafs have gone 6-0 without Lindros Allison and a host of others and also did pretty well early on without Sundin. If Hasek and Alfie are the difference between a sure fire Cup contender and a team who gets trounced by the Thrashers then you guys should pack up your dreams right now and jump on the Leaf bandwagon.

There's plenty of room for panicky Sens fans and we'll be nice.

  1. hey, wasn't there a long-running thread on this site about how the Sens didn't have to worry about injury to Hasek for some reason?
I believe an Ottawa fan or two claimed everyone was obsessed with the possibility. Well, this is why. Sens can get hurt, and when that happens, bad news.
Also, where are the Sens fans on this site today?

  2. If it's there, find it and post it.

    Like this - (called it)

Sens fans aren't going anywhere. Adversity is a good thing for a team that's so talent laden, especially when it's been lulled to sleep for half a season by shelacking the boys in blue.

Getting our clocked cleaned on the first of 4 games this week sans the 'C' gives Murray plenty to work with in the grinding department and having guys step up and stabilize the game.

  3. "Where are the Sens fans on this site today?"

    (barf)

    Right here.

Shall I start up a Who To Trade For Doug Weight thread?

I tossed and turned last night. Nothing but visions of Spezz and Heater posting up goose eggs in a first round matchup with the Thrash. Brrrr.

  4. Well congrats to the Leafs. Being a big Penguins fan all my life it was tough to watch but it's better than losing to Ottawa!

It was a good game though, Crosby played well. Not sure why they started Thibault though. The guy looks really shaky in the net, gave off some huge rebounds. Good thing the team is starting to play better defensively infront or that game would have been pretty bad for the Pens.

    PS.: Sens Suck.

  5. Losing 8-3 to the Thrashers is "adversity"?

  6. Adversity, Calamity. Potaeto, Potahto.

Canada/Finland tonight -- let's hope the refs are half decent.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Actually yoda the pens were out shot pretty badly; Thibault made this game look respectable.

  8. My prediction...

    Canada 4 - Finland 2

    ReplyDelete
  9. Rask looks like he'd fit right in in Toronto.

  10. I know they were outshot, but the quality of the shots weren't always that great and a lot of them came on rebounds that shouldn't have been there.

Thibault has been a shaky goalie all year and looked very uncomfortable in nets.

The leafs are playing well enough to beat non playoff teams finally. Therefore thre hockey gods decided to let the Sens lose to playoff contenders such as the Thrashers. This helps balance the favoritism the refs are showing to the Leafs. Therefore the Leafs won't make the playoffs!!!

  12. What I find pretty funny is how you guys were crying when you didn't have Sundin playing. Now we sudddenly have a reversal of roles here, and +, and suddenly you're the Stanley Cup team? HAHA!!! Keep your hankies in your hands cause you're gonna need 'em. Injuries on the Sens lines is the only confidence factor you Leafs fans have in hopes of getting past the Sens, but we all know injuries don't last forever. Enjoy it while it lasts boys.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Cantxcape - please provide evidence of this "crying" when Sundin was hurt.

  14. Duff, what the hell are you talking about? Are you saying that Philly, Buffalo, Carolina, and the Rangers are all non-playoff teams? The Leafs have beaten all of them... and before their current 6 game winning streak.

At least they can beat Atlanta!

    ReplyDelete
  15. duff, are you smoking crack that doesn't come from a plant but your ass??

Toronto has more heart and determination than the Sens. That in itself puts them ahead of the Sens in the playoffs.

Yoda, you friggin little green Muppet, one more comment like that and I'll have you reamed by the (HO HO HO) Green CHARA !!!...lol

    ReplyDelete
  17. Just kidding Duff, but the Sens seem to lack that Intensity or determination to give it 100% night in and night out!

It just seems to be that they accept winning but they don't take each game like they can lose. You have to go out there and give every last ounce of what you have which the Leafs seem to do.

  18. Sorry, but I couldn't resist posting this (as heard during the Finland-US relegation final)

McGuire: Man, look at those guys work! Finland is like the Toronto Maple Leafs of international hockey!

Miller (deadpans): What? Because they haven't won in forever?

McGuire: No no -- They just never quit.
